ParticipantHey everyone, I had a question about training, so I figured I’d post it here.
Has anyone trained to bodybuild and do martial arts at the same time? I ask because I am about to do so again (I stopped martial arts for a while due to injury)…but I am wondering how martial arts training and bodybuilding can be comapatible with each other.
Does anyone know how to maximize muscle gains while training in martial arts? I want to one day become a heavyweight mixed martial artist, hopefully.
For the record, I am going to be joining a Hapkido dojo soon and train in a mixed martial arts club currently at my college. In terms of my body type, I think I am an ectomesomorph due to being six feet and having long limbs (including thin arm bones sadly, I think my wrist size is about six and a half inches but it looks smaller due my long limbs). On the other hand, I have really muscular legs (I was nicknamed Chun-Li…despite that I’m male) and can put muscle on my body quickly pretty much anywhere (though my arms only look big when I flex 🙁 due to the length of them). I currently weigh 181 pounds with about 20% body fat (I lost a lot of muscle while injured).

KeymasterOffhand, I can’t think of anyone currently on the forums that is.
The_Pimp_NeonBlack, **I think** might have, but he hasn’t posted here for a long time.
Still, you could try a PM to him.

ParticipantI can’t help you there. However, I would consider the balance factor in your training. Some bodybuilders don’t always think about balance and coordination, which are important in martial arts training.

ParticipantThanks to everyone who replied so far. Sorry for not replying in a bit; life has been somewhat crazy recently.
Also, that is very good advice; Holiday. I can be somewhat klutzy unless I’m focusing; so I needed to hear that.
