I went down a proper rabbit hole recently trying to understand the top publishing houses in India, and it honestly felt a bit overwhelming at first.

Every article or list I saw had different names, different opinions, and everyone seemed to define “top” in their own way. Initially I thought it was just about big names, but the more I read, the more I realised it is not that simple.

For example, Penguin Random House India clearly stands out because of its reputation and the kind of authors it publishes. It feels more like the traditional route where credibility and reach matter a lot, but getting in there is not easy.

Then there are platforms like Notion Press, which feel more approachable. It gave me the sense that someone who just wants to get their work out without waiting endlessly might actually feel more comfortable here.

While exploring, I also came across TreeShade Books. What felt different here is that it does not strictly follow the typical traditional route. It looks more like a guided setup where support is provided across editing, publishing, and overall process, which can feel reassuring for someone who does not want to figure everything out alone.

What really stayed with me after all this reading is that the idea of “top publishing houses in India” is actually quite personal. For someone, it could mean prestige and big distribution. For someone else, it could simply mean getting their book published smoothly without too much confusion.

That shift in thinking made the whole space feel a little less intimidating and a bit more practical to understand.
