Participant[font=tahoma]I heard some whispers the WW movie has been picking up speed lately. So I inquired over at Bluetights, and there was a plethora of wonderful new materials and treasures. Here’s a quote from IESB.net:
IESB Superhero Update Exclusive- Live Action Wonder Woman Picking Up Speed
Written by IESB Staff
Thursday, 12 March 2009"IESB is hearing the dormant Amazonian Princess is picking up speed over at Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures.
There was a regime change late last year over at Silver Pictures, Andrew Roma is now the man in charge and will be the man spearheading the live action Wonder Woman project along with mega producer Joel Silver.
Sources in the Burbank studios have confirmed there is quite a bit of movement on the WW front. With Green Lantern going into production this year, it looks like Princess Diana may finally get the go ahead from WB.
WB and Silver Pictures are in the early stages but they are eager to get started on the movie. Sources tell IESB that WB is looking for new writers on the project and have been taking pitches the last few weeks.
Created during World War II, the character was initially depicted fighting the Axis military forces, as well as an assortment of supervillains and supervillainesses. In later decades, some writers and their editors preferred to retain the World War II setting, while others updated the series to reflect an ongoing "present day."
Wonder Woman has also regularly appeared in the team books Justice Society (from 1941) and Justice League (from 1960). Arguably the most popular and iconic superheroine in comics, she is informally grouped with Superman and Batman as one of a "Trinity" of DC characters who are regarded as especially important, both within their fictional universe and without."
(Sorry if this should be a continuation of another thread, Alex darling. I was too tired to search for it, but wanted to share ASAP.)
Look at these phenomenal fan-made posters! *Sighs* I really like the antique look of the wristbands and head piece. VERY nice indeed.
My favorite!

ParticipantWith all the success of comic book movies lately, they would be crazy not to put a Wonder Woman movie on the fast-track. The writers of the animated Wonder Woman movie did such a good job, my choice would be for them to write the live action version as well.
As to who should play her, my current fav is the beautiful and athletic Sarah Lancaster.

ParticipantAfter years of watching how movie decisions are made, I highly doubt the WonderWoman movie will ever be made.
The truth may hurt, but the same goes for She-Hulk. The female superheroes have smaller fanbase than the mainstream (Superman, Batman…) heroes. They have only one advantage over those, the hotness factor. But besides that?
Invisible Jet? Lasso of Truth?
Come on…
Well, I hope I'm wrong Mimi, but the odds are against this movie.
PS: If I said anything stupid about WW tell me, I'm not an expert and haven't checked wikipedia.

ParticipantGee Solarian can you hold tone down enthusiasm just a bit? 😉
Personally I like Carolina Marconi She speaks three languages now and I'm sure she could learn enough english to get by in a movie.
I mean sure I'd love to find someone like Jamie Reed to play her but that's an even bigger stretch.July 14, 2009 at 11:38 am #85182Solarian, aka LordDaroth
ParticipantI'm just saying that there is an awful silence about super heroine movies. Hollywood concentrates about comic movies such as: Avengers, Thor, Iron Man, Batman, Superman reboot, Green Lantern… And these are only the ones I could recall right now.
There is no place for WW, She-Hulk, PowerGirl or Supergirl. These would be the ones for us. And even if they're going to be made, there won't be as much as a hint of muscle or a sign of actual strength on the chosen acressses unfortunately… I can garantee that. No buffed Jesica Biel or Michelle Ryan…

ParticipantWell assuming the CEO at Warner has been replaced, WW is going to be a no-go. He was quoted as saying "Movies with heroines in the lead role don't seem to sell as well. So we're not going to do anymore of those." He cited movies starring Jodi Foster as examples of feature films that didn't do well in the market.

ParticipantI see what you're saying Solarian, and TC2, but I think you guys are wrong in this case. I can totally see a Wonder Woman film being made and being quite successful. As we all know, studio executives aren't particularly daring or innovative and they'll keep going with what works until it's well and truly run into the ground. At the moment, it's comic book movies and they're already starting to run out of male characters to base movies on. For example, I'm willing to bet that more people around the world have heard of Wonder Woman than The Green Lantern. The quote by the WB exec referred to heroine characters in general, not Golden-Age iconic super-heroines like Wonder Woman. Also, with respect to the golden lasso and invisible plane affecting the credibility factor, you could say similar things about any super-hero movie. You just need the right director that knows how to walk the fine line between cool and camp, so you end up with more Batman Begins than Batman and Robin. I reckon that someone like JJ Abrams would be ideal. I also think it's smart to set during World War II, though. I mean do we really want to see a final fight scene between Wonder Woman and Osama Bin Laden?

ParticipantThat may be true Reason, let's hope that. But I'm still sceptical.
Holiday: I wasn't aware of them, thanks. But at heroine movies I meant superheroines, not female protegonist so Whiteout shouldn't be here. And I would hardy call GI Joe a heroine movie:)

ParticipantI threw in G.I.Joe because it's existed as a cartoon and in the comics. Whiteout is included because it did start off as a graphic novel/comic. If people are wondering what heroines we are getting this year that list gives us the closest thing to them.
