I’m going to put ads on it, and then hide most of the ads for people who are logged in. We’ll see how much that raises. Back in the early days of my blogging I was making about $600/month off ads, but those numbers plummeted over time, to the point where I didn’t bother with ads at all. We’ll see how it goes now.

Ok, I’m planning to do a test migration Friday morning without shutting down the current site, and if that works I’ll shut down the site later in the day and do it for real.

Hypothetically you won’t even need to reset your passwords and should be able to log in easily. There won’t be DMs, at least initially, so if you want to save anything, do it now.

OK, I’m going to migrate it to WordPress/bbpress over the weekend. No promises, it’s a big goddamn database that’s got stuff in it from three prior version of the forum, and it runs on a wing and prayer as it is.

So what will happen is that I will close the site sometime on Saturday and then hopefully the new site will open a few hours later.

Have you thought about different hosting providers? I’m surprised you are paying that much, there are a lot of other more affordable options out there.

It’s Joomla. The hosting demands are significant. There’s a migration provider to move it to WordPress’ bbpress, I’ll look at that over the weekend. That would reduce host costs by about 1/2 to 2/3.

There are about 300 regular visitors—mostly silent—and then around 2500 search visitors per week. But my efforts to monetize those visits haven’t really worked, and I’ve kept the site running for a long time because I didn’t want to let people down.

So, the really weird thing about the fake Natalie Portman muscles is that Marvel hasn’t released any still photos of her embuffened. (I haven’t seen any, anyway.) What we’re seeing are frame grabs, which will never have the same level of detail as a crafted still image.

On one of the movie posters she looks completely believable with a figure competitor build, but of course that’s a heavily worked piece of commercial art.
