AlexGKeymasterYou raise some very valid points and in general, I would agree with you – we're all products of the time, place and culture that we're born into and ERB was no exception. However, his female characters, particularly in the Mars series were far from cowering wall flowers in need of male rescue – if necessary they could stick the shiv in, swing sword or use a radium blaster to deadly effect. Granted a modern interpretation, my own, would include a far greater femuscular build – to one degree or another – then even he would have allowed for in his physical descriptions (pre-1950). Even so, I think EBR would agree that a people, including females, raised in what are essentially martial cultures (Helium, Thark, et al) would have matching athletic builds to go along with all the sword training or physical what not that they had to routinely endure. The subsequent paperback cover artwork, over time, has only confirmed this view to my satisfaction – same could be said of the Marvel Comics run (1978-80) – or in other words, my use of the word buffed = athletic.
I hope that this better clarifies from whence I was speaking.

AlexGKeymasterYou never heard of Big Barda??? Heck she even made it to Justice League Unlimited. The episode where she, shorter hubby Mister Miracle and the Flash go to Apokalypse.
And its one of my favorate episodes in the series. **sigh**
BTW – Big Barda made it into the JLU in a much earlier episode of Batman Beyond – in the last two installments of that series, if I remember correctly. Interesting to note, that the alt-reality Justice Lord Superman and JLU Superman in Batman Beyond shared the same type of uniform.

AlexGKeymasterTom Burgos has done a couple Thundra drawings for his Yahoo groups, one of a pin-up style, the other was a done in a cartoon format, sort of similar to those used in the JLU series.
Yo, Zespara – if you need scanning tips and tricks, feel free to PM / email me about it.
