Calf development is tricky, anyway. Generally, people either have it or they have to really work at it. In either case, I prefer the look of shapely, well-defined calves.  I don't know why the aesthetic is changing, though.  I complain about it at length here: http://asianfitnessblog.com/2007/05/25/is-calf-development-now-penalised.aspx

Might I say your article is one of the best that I have read on the subject of judging and physique for a long while and that I can definitely see the trend about which you are speaking.  As much as I like Amanda Savell, she should never have beaten Julina Malacarne in that contest – Malacarne had the more muscular, shapely physique IMO. 8)

Whilst it's true that I cannot get completely enraptured by her as I do others, there is no doubt about her hotness or the wonderfulness of her body. 8)  It's great to see such a dedicated athlete gain recognition. 🙂
