While this may shock and amaze miss pixxxie here, and possibly a few others I'm actually a fully functioning adult with a job  😮  Seriously, I don't need you to randomly lecture me over our economy (which isn't a pure capitalism by the way).  Believe it or not, I do pay for things – Food, gas, clothing, etc.  I didn't come in here with the intention of trying to impose my views on anyone, just to answer the thread's original question.  I shouldn't have responded to the initial "flames" if you will.

No, it isn't about guilt or being outnumbered, it's the fact that I won't change my views based on what you say, and the same probably applies for you. Outside of free samples, or what has been posted by someone on youtube (which the original copyright owner can have removed whenever they want) The only things I torrent are all produced by corporations that don't need the money.

Really? Is that a fact? So….all the major labels don't need to ever sell dvds or cds and they can just rely on kick back money. That's what you're saying. Artists like….and I'm just throwing out examples here….Amy Lee/Evanescense don't need any money from DVD sales or CD sales? Somehow they just magically dips her their hands into the magical leprechaun pot of gold and produce the money that they need to live on, is that right? I mean, you must know better than i do. It's not like I have three degrees in music from prestigious universities. I mean, it's not like I've taken years and years of music business classes or actually have worked for major labels before. No, I would have no idea what I'm talking about, right?

Those artists typically make piss poor money from albums, many admit themselves that they make their money off of concerts (which I do attend… and pay for artists that I like)  – To further this statement, artists are starting to simply give out their music for free, or let buyers choose how much they want to pay.

Do me a favor. Clear out 20 gigs worth of free space on your hard-drive. I'm going to send you ALL of the documents I have on record sales and how the business actually works…because you have no clue how it really works.

As for the movies, if it's something that is in theaters, I'll pay for it, downloading a DVD of a movie produced by billion dollar corporations doesn't really affect them very much.

I want you to read the statement beneath this one….that's the reason why DVD cost so goddamn much. The other reason? Look at the WGA strike. That's the OTHER REASON.

If anything, in my opinion (not sure if I'm allowed to have one though), more people should pirate DVDs/CDs, they are very overpriced – someone said that pirating raises the price for everyone?  Not necessarily true, for small struggling artists, yes it is, and I don't/try not to intentionally steal from those types, but if everyone stops buying the latest DVD for 20 dollars, or the latest CDs for 15, then it might get into the heads of the chairmen that maybe they should lower the price to something that's fair.

Yeah, because stealing things really sends a message to the corporations.  ::)

Anyways, sorry for offending many of you by not allowing corporate America completely run my checkbook, and in short, for the original topic – I don't pay any money for this fetish because many artists of this genre create FREE art / stories, and I'm willing to have less material personally.  If you want to pay $15 a month and get some great animations, more power to you.  I choose to use what's already free…  that's my choice.

And like I said, if you wanna steal shit and be a leech, that's your call. Just know that assholes like you, fuck it up for everyone else. You can come up with a million excuses and reasons and etc….it doesn't change the fact that you truly have no idea what's going on in the world around you and you're just another kid that wants to blame corporate America.

Edit, had to go on a mini rant since I feel I didn't explain myself enough:

Just because someone would rather go on youtube, or use bittorrent than pay $15 a month for something doesn't really entitle you to be angry at them, unless that person stealing your work, which of course you have the option of perusing legal action by having said material removed from youtube, or finding and charging the seeders of the torrents.

Also, I don't see how Lingster would have ire for my comment, I'm not aware of any content that he holds a copyright for that I'm stealing.  If this was a site for a FBB, and I was stealing her members only content and bragging about it to her, I would understand.  So, in short, please show me what I'm stealing from this site to deserve rude comments…

As someone who's had media in the form of artwork & music stolen from her and then passed off as someone else's work entirely, the mere thought of someone bilking someone else's work really…really…REALLY pisses me the fuck off. If someone works their ass off to make something, it's only polite that you provide restitution to that person, be it monitary or in the form of a well written letter or a trade in your respective medium of art.

What TC2 & stmercy said echoes my sentiments 110% (side note: TC2….we're cool now, buddy). It seems like you feel like you're entitled to free entertainment. Guess what? That's not how it works, spanky. You gotta give to get. Plain and simple. If I wanted to, I could get ALL of my musical equipment for FREE….but I choose to pay for it all. Every string, pick, drumstick, drumhead, etc…etc….I pay for it in full. Why? Because I feel that it's my obligation as a considerate consumer to provide monitary restitution to these people that provide me with the tools of my trade.

I don't pay any money for this sort of material, outside of basic internet/electricity fees of course.  Although, I don't pay money for many forms of media either, whether it be games, movies, television shows etc. unless it's really worth it I find a way around the price.
