ParticipantDoesn't matter, I don't think. They relaunch She-Hulk every metric decade, it tanks after a couple dozen issues and then vanishes into obscurity because it doesn't dare to do anything different than a million other comics just like it. You can get cheesecake in virtually any comic out there; Marvel doesn't understand the appeal of certain characters to certain fans, and She-Hulk is one that is repeatedly mistargeted.

ParticipantActually, I think the real point is that there's just not that many people interested in JUST strength-oriented fare. I'm a firm believer that you can have these types of characters, but I also believe that there has to be more than just that.

ParticipantGuess you'll have to make one. 😀

ParticipantOf course piracy is still going to be an issue. Yhaoo Groups and Peer to Peer networks will take their toll on any enterprise like this. Toss in a little competition from established pay sites like LH-Art and other assorted providers and it seems likely this will be one very tough job.
CM had a good point that I have tried making (to little avail) that having characters that are a wee bit more complicated then the typical stereotype is what keeps the folks coming back on a regular basis. It’s one of the few ways to reach to a wider audience beyond the niche of sexual attraction. What folks may have not noticed is how limiting the stereotype can be to us artists. It’s as if every single story, character trait, and casual reference needs to be directly linked to extreme physical strength. It can be extremely frustrating when a story idea goes in different direction.
This is exactly what I've done with Andrah. Mind you, she's not mainstream by any stretch, but she's found a lot of acceptance with my readers (most of whom are not involved in the subculture) and is a fan favorite. In the ten years I've had her online, she's never really done anything violent or strength-focused at all; in fact, nobody knew what her strength limit was until I'd told them. She's a character that' been purely driven by her heart and mind…she's not massive just for the sake of it, she's an everyday person who just happens to BE that way.

ParticipantI'd have to say that this little niche doesn't need any more "turn the little guy into a pulp" stories. Having Britt do strength feats however is quite alluring, i'd be glad to pay for that.
Having a circus background, showboating is something she'd do best. :p Since I generally deal in wallpaper sized stuff, each one would likely be good as a desktop.

ParticipantShe's in the back half of her twenties now, and still has a lot ahead of her. To quote three-headed Rolf from '1 + 1 = Ed': The story is not yet over. 🙂

I totally forgot I had this deviantart account; this is one of two images I posted there nearly two years ago.

ParticipantProbably be seeing more of her, as I plan on developing her into my first full non-PCC character project.

ParticipantIt's that "commit[ting] to a weekly schedule" that makes me just a little hesitant to take advantage of that idea (and why I haven't pursued a pay site in the first place, and why I didn't bite the first time you suggested it).
But if there are other artists who'd be interested in joining me in this, leave a response here in this thread or a PM, and let's at least exchange some thoughts.
Likewise. Hammering out PCC twice a week is schedule enough; given my relatively infrequent art postings here, being locked into a weekly schedule would only amount to me cranking out increasingly mediocre material. I draw when the inspiration hits, and that's hard to lock into a schedule. I would be interested in doing desktops for a venture such as this, though, and maybe an irregular comic series I could work on when time permits.
As far as PCC goes, I pull in about $3000 a year in desktop donations, but I don't think I could do that with just a random wallpaper assortment of marginally female freakshows. It's CHARACTERS that readers form attachments to, regardless of cup size or bicep girth (which is part of the reason I want to develop Britt as a character project outside of PCC…sure, she may be a mammoth, but it's the personality side that people will become attached to). I think where a lot of people get frustrated with femuscle art is that they feel they can just throw up the flavor of the week bursting chains, tossing tanks, or chewing through granite and expect to gain a large following, and unfortunately that isn't how it works. Sure, there's a market for that and if that's your thing, by all means, enjoy. But over time you'll discover that it's not the feats of strength that bring people back; in fact, it's when you reveal that these freaks of nature have flaws, weaknesses, hopes, dreams, and desires that you'll start noticing that people's interest is growing.
I don't do commissions for the same reason Yatz stopped; I'm not into the subculture's prominent infatuation with violence or sadism. I am, however, planning on going into feats of strength with Britt, because the character is an innate showoff.

ParticipantI could use some ideas for other pics with her as well; check out her bio and let me know. :p
