Its not a Director’s Cut, its the actual complete (well, almost complete) film, as originally shown in 1927. It was edited down from the original 153 minute run time to 90 minutes after the first showing in Germany. Until now, the longest cut known was just under 2 hours long. The Kino video used title cards to fill in the missing scenes to give an idea of the full story.
A couple years ago, an almost complete (147 minutes) 16mm copy was found in a Brazil museum. Its been restored by the Murnau Foundation and is being shown in theatres this summer. In the fall, both DVD and BluRay versions will be released by Kino.
I knew that, hence the “quotation marks” around “director’s cut” as it has been referred to as a “director’s cut” in several articles due to the fact it is a different cut of the film from the one released to theaters, and the industry likes to slap directors cut on things to sell more copies. That’s called

Did not know the website though. What the hell do you mean I just wanted an excuse to post Jack O’Neil?

[/URL]Their is a fully restored “Director’s Cut” version of Metropolis coming out later this year on BluRay that has missing scenes that were cut from it’s release in the United States and later releases on home media. It’s supposed to be re-released in some theaters here as well.

FlakBaitKeymasterw00t!! SciFi movies!!! I particularly love watching the older ones from the 50’s and 60’s when they occasionally show them on TCM and AMC. Watched “Frankenstein vs The Space Monster” Thursday night 😆 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059199/
