Well, they have the excuse that MM ‘s powers are alien / technological / magical, er…well, not physical.

    At least she’s pretty cute.

This is something that I wanted to write since the Wonder Woman Casting thread: what if, instead of choosing a skinny woman, making her lift the pinkies and greenies for 3 months, and try to convince the rest of the not-blind universe she now looks like a superheroine, they take the opposite approach? I mean, pick a regular-sized or a-little-bigger-than-regular-sized actress, and put her on a serious diet and training regime? Which actress would say no to this? If they don’t want the “residual” muscle later, they could always keep their new shape. Granted, it would take more time to achieve, but it would take less time to try to put up excuses and photoshop their “now-super-ripped” stars. And I don’t mean Melissa Mc Carthy big, I’m talking about Kat Dennings, or Kate Hudson in Titanic big. Women with good bone structure. According to TvTropes, this body type is (sarcastically) called Hollywood Pudgy.

All of us who wander through these types of forums, know it can be done. we’ve seen slightly overweight ladies turn into more than athletic in a matter of months, and yes, I’m aware many times drugs are involved, but if “time” is the word here…more times, less drugs involved perhaps?

    Just wondering.

    Excellent post!

From what I’ve learned Reading the “Millenium” saga, all Swedish are either bodybuilders or old people, consume nothing but coffee and junk food, and put English words in all their sentences (kidding).

Speaking of tampering photos…there’s one thing that doesn’t get addressed besides sandblasting faces, shading muscles and replacing parts (!!!)…which is head shrinking. Look at any studio photo and you’ll find the model looks surprisingly tall (thus bigger) compared to any casual pictures they post on their own.
It gets more obvious with short competitors, but once you know the trick, it kinda jumps on to the eye:

Okay, the angle’s a little tilted, but the difference is obvious.

Lately SG seem to have more definition (compare to earlier episodes). Think she is working out or a body suit?

Both. She mentioned in an early interview that the suit is, indeed, padded (check the shoulders). Also, that’s a touched up photo, so maybe someone gave the arms a little extra shading.

They’re rebooting everything again?!?! I still remember the mayhem about the “pants-no pants” debate, and then the full covering suit with the assassin-like blades…and now this.
I give up…every time I check Scans Daily, I’m still surprised to see a Superman with the red briefs. 😛

For “growth” specifically, the first I can remember is every time Olive Oyl had some of Popeye’s Spinach…she didn’t grow a whole muscular body, but at least her biceps got pumped. Comic-wise, I can remember Ann O’Brien from Douglas Adam’s “Monkeyman and O’Brien” as the first slow and steady muscular growth in…94-95, I think. Since I hardly read superhero comics, She-Hulk was never in my mind.

You know, I’ve always wondered why nobody ever did a parody/homage/rule 63 version of the Charles Atlas’ advert. This small example gives me a slight hope we’ll find a few more of the kind. And damn, they took away the most important vignette: admiring and commenting her new muscles in front of the mirror!

    I hope this isn’t stretching it too much…. 😉

I played “SNK vs. CapCom” and she didn’t look like that… :pinch:

Wow. Gemma Atkinson trascended “fashionably fit” into “muscular“! great post!
Jamie Pressly is my obvious choice to play Harley Quinn. She’s got that pretty/insane expression, plus she’s physically imposing to look really dangerous. And she’s a capable actress that can combine comedy with action.

The latest fad is SW’s Daisy Ridley. She got hooked with the weights training for Ep. VII, and she’s getting very, very fit. Check her IG!

And for comparison pictures, let’s give Wonder Woman’s thread a rest and post directly here…but for the record: everyone has muscles, otherwise we couldn’t be able to move. It’s just that in skinny girls they show earlier.

Shes very stunning! Good muscle size and definition, not overly ripped and from i can tell no plastic surgery either!

I agree with you 80%…I like when the ladies sport huge shoulders, the widest back with a tiny waist and a good set of hips…

but no plastic surgery? Check her “bosom”…

As good as the animation is, I still see those fights more pandering to the fighting fetish fans rather tan “empowering” . I said it before; WW was a fetishist creation, and it’s not that she can’t evolve from that, it’s that the superhero industry doesn’t want to take that step. She could be a more complex character, but not that much:” A woman in a very small one piece badly masqueraded as a grecorroman armor. She’s fit, beautiful and she fights. A lot.” You can’t build up that too much.

It sounds pedantic, I know, but let’s not waste our hopes in the character becoming much more that it can be…let’s not forget that when she was made member of the Justice League/Battallion/Group/Whatever, her job was as a secretary:
