I know it’s a bit long, and a bit academic, but this sort of problem makes me so sad:

    Body image

cp, you had an extra “http: //” in the link preventing it from clicking through correctly. I have fixed that in the quoted link above. Everyone, click on the quoted link and it will load.

You are always the one on here that consistently gets me thinking and we suck each other into these intellectual discussions that alienate half the other forum members.

Incidentally, I happen to consider that a good thing. The intellectualism, not the alienating. They just seem too often to go hand in hand.

I did not even finish reading the article before I had to write this reply because it put a thought in my head that had to be addressed.

And that thought is that while this article is not about mental illness, it infers it to some degree. Right about where the author says that she saw an old picture of Cindy Crawford and was struck by the thought that Cindy’s thigh looked fat only to correct herself and acknowledge that Cindy was “athletic” aka that it was muscle not fat.

This immediately made me reflect back to an old talk show episode I remember seeing where a very attractive and fit girl kept complaining how fat she was and how much time she spent on her stair climber. She had toned thighs thick from muscle. An audience member asked her to flex her legs and when she did, pointed out that you can’t flex fat.

Never mind the contradiction that this girl claiming to think she was repulsively fat happened to be wearing a skin tight mini dress. Not really the kind of attire anyone that was deeply convinced of their own dumpiness would dare wear.

But it illustrates the central point that there are people afflicted with mental illness that manifests itself as distorted body image. That if the girl with the muscular thighs had dressed in oversized overalls and baggy shirt, she would have been wildly out of touch, and there are people afflicted with distorted body image mental illness that are unable to see themselves in a mirror with any kind of accuracy.

Note I said people, not women because mental illness is an equal opportunity affliction.

The thing is though, mental illness is the key, not body image. If we all lived in a world fixated on buttering the top or the bottom side of our toast, the mental illness would conceivably latch onto that instead.

Eradicate the mental illness (the cause), and you will eliminate the distorted body image (the symptom).

I’m ashamed to say I forgot to include Deidre Pagnanelli till just now.

I’ve been slowly going through my list post on page 2 of this thread and adding sample pictures to accompany each name.

I’m working on first names beginning with “D” right now. This is taking waaaaaay longer than I thought it would when I began, but it is my hope that it will either intro some new (or old) faces, and maybe down the road when I am too senile to remember, I might come across that post and find that I don’t need a certain infamous pharmaceutical that starts with the letter “V”.

I have also been adding names as I think of them. I will post again when I have finished adding pictures to all of the names.

Hopefully darkclaw91 will find the list (with sample pics) useful. But just in case he reads this post, he should know that I’ve been at this a long time and he should not be surprised if there are names in my list which date back as far as the 1980’s.

That would have been untrue. I would not put Nicole Ball or Denise Hoshor for example. While they are list worthy to those who named them, they aren’t to me.

Did I put more effort into the list than most? Yes. But rather than scoff, how about a thank you. I’ll bet there are names on there you might not know and could find that you would include in your own list.

I expect that didn’t occur to you, but it did to me before deciding to post my list. It may well have occurred to Alex as well prompting him to start the thread. Good idea Alex, no matter what your reasons were.

I am going to have to come back and revise my list dozens of times as I think of ones I did not include. This is bound to be a very long list.

I need to start the list with the one that got me started in a red one piece on the cover of WPW (first magazine I ever bought).

How about Brooke Langton? Yes, she’s a brunette, but she did dye her hair blonde before.

Good taste Holiday. Brooke is quite beautiful and I can see why you suggested her as I really had to compare a lot of photos of Brooke against the mystery girl. Unfortunately, I do not believe it is Brooke. This girl’s nose is a bit more slender and has a mild concave curve to the bridge of her nose. The smile differs some and she looks younger than Brooke. Also not in all photos, but in most, Brooke appears to have a bit of a larger bust line.

TC2, its a relevant answer, so no exclusion. Thanks for the thoughtful response.

I will consider your argument that I am over organizing quite seriously. It is very counter to what my approach has been and may just be the trick to help. I must admit it makes me uncomfortable, but I just need to let the idea settle.

    Anyone else have any suggestions?

that being the case, rather than actresses (unless you need them for their voices), you might consider those trained in dance.

this thought is inspired from something the director of equilibrium said in the special features about performance of his fictional “gun kata” by trained martial artists versus by its star christian bale. he found that bale was better at delivering on what he envisioned than the martial artists. he credited bale’s dance training.

this way you potentially get the best of both. dancers for exacting movement (and they are athletic by trade), and voice actors whom you can cast for the quality of their voice and delivery of dialog.

this may also help with budget. you will naturally seek out amateurs and to keep costs down. if the scope of their role is reduced (only movement, only voice) you can potentially pay less. if they get it right in fewer takes you can potentially pay less.

of course you can potentially get them to do it for free if it means building their credentials. and there is also the possibility of seeking actors with dance training.

anyhow. just some possibilities for your consideration.
