15 LIZDE Almira 04.07.1982 BIH B 74.85 83 100 183The competition was pretty much a rematch from Asian championships for the world record owners Podobedova and Lei. The Chinese wasn't in as a good shape as she has been previous years so it was a easy competition for the ex-Russian Svetlana. She was in phenomenal condition making all three world records with her lifts.
I was a bit suprised from Hripsime's performance since she bested her personal bests a lot. All in all, this was the first class where I was able to predict the top three correctly.
I wonder where did the Russians disappear. Injuries I guess. ::)

29.05.1984 THA 52.45 A — — —Officials have screwed up already twice in these games. First in women 48 kg division they put the wrong weights for WANG Mingjuans last attempt and she lost the clean and jerk victory due to that mistake even though she was able to complete the lift.
The second one when they didn't add correct weight for Chen Xiaoting and she had to hurry to perform her lift and failed in it. Then they admitted their mistake and gave her fourth attempt but it was no go.
The victory went to 16-year-old phenomena Chinshanlo Zulfiya who had huuuuge legs. She tied the world record in c&j and thus naturally made also youth and junior records.
Yudelquis Maridalin wasn't banned for doping offense after all.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced sanctions against five athletes who participated in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing for having committed anti-doping violations. However, it did not disqualify Dominican Republic's Yudelquis Maridalin Contreras (fifth in the 53kg weightlifting event) after counter-analysis failed to confirm the initial result.

Caster Semenya – Statement
New IAAF LOGO (IAAF.org)
Monte-Carlo – The IAAF, the South African Ministry of Sport and Recreation and Caster Semenya’s representatives have been and still are in discussions with a view to resolving the issues surrounding Caster Semenya’s participation in Athletics. The IAAF will not comment upon the medical aspects of Caster Semenya’s case. The medical testing of the athlete is still to be completed.
There will be no discussion of Caster Semenya’s case at the forthcoming IAAF Council Meeting to be held in Monaco on 20-21 November 2009. No further comment will be made on this subject until further notice.
IAAF
Well that was quite unexpected. It seems that there is something weird about her and the matter has growth out of proportions due to poor handling by IAAF. Now it's not only biological problem but also political. South Africans have been furious and the country's chairman of athletics was kicked out in the process as well the whole association got suspended.
Lets just hope she can compete again.

ParticipantThe preliminary entry lists have been published. Some Chinese lifters miss from the list because they haven't announced them due to closeness of National Games. In Xinhua News they reported that Wang Mingjuan (48kg category), Chen Xiaoting (53kg category), Li Xueying (58kg category), Guo Xiyan (63kg category), Liu Chunhong, (69kg category), Cao Lei (75kg category), Meng Suping, (over 75kg category)would be the lifters.
Nahla Ramadan is making a comeback in 75+ category and she did recently 280 total in national championships.

ParticipantI can hardly believe it, we just got Eurosport on cable over here in Australia, so it looks like I'll actually be able to watch the World Weightlifting Championships after all. The last time it as televised here was when it was hosted by Melbourne, way back in 1993!
Good to hear I'm not the only one wathcing this competition in this board ;D

ParticipantWhat a pity, I used to really like her. But of course, everybody chooses their own path.
