Ah yes! Filmation. Its biggest draw for me, though, can be summed up in three words: Hey, Hey, HEY!
Oh yes. Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids.
Also… they made a live TV series called… "The Ghost Busters."
Yeah, it centered around two characters, Spencer and Kong, and their ape Tracey, taking down their ghost of the week.
Later on, Columbia Pictures got Filmation's permission to use the title for the movie… the famous one with Peter, Egon, Ray, Winston, and that green ugly spud Slimer.
Filmation tried to cash in on it by making an animated series of the original TV show, but Columbia countered with its own cartoon series… "The Real Ghostbusters." Which one the day.
Deservably so, I must sadly admit.
And I recall no animated King Kong… but I do know that Hanna Barbera did "The Godzilla Power Hour."
Hey, DCM, you recall something called Uncle Croc's Block?
September 12, 2005 at 5:11 am #11429btxParticipantProbably WTMI (Way Too Much Information), but *sigh* that's when Saturday mornings were fun! Space Ghost, The Herculoids, Hot Wheels and Sky Hawks… does anyone else remember an animated version of King Kong?
DCM,
Oh yeah I remember the Kong allright… ( Singing in Basso Profundo voice ) "King Kong, you know the name of King Kong, You know the name of King Kong…TEN TIMES AS BIG AS A MAN!!!"
I'm NOT making those lyrics up (remember when 'toons had lyrics?) Check out the Toon Tracker website where you can download classic cartoon tv themes and clips.

Aw man, I was thinking about posting those lyrics myself! (I'm still convinced, that they're singing "King Kong, you know the name of King Kong, You know the fame of King Kong…TEN TIMES AS BIG AS A MAN!!!" although it's hard to tell from the .wav file at that site).
Topic drift much?

I also check a lot of others artists to see how they do poses, expressions, and the like.September 16, 2005 at 10:49 am #11432phenomsParticipant…And I happen to like "freaky" biceps… If you've ever seen a pic of Joan Lauth* flexing her guns, then you know what I mean. I like biceps that are not only hard as a rock, but also look like they were carved out of rock…
*Dammit! the WPW site won't let me link directly to her pages!

Had a buddy that worked for filmation from the Star Trek series thru to the He-Man
/She-Ra stuff. His name was Steve Damiani and he was a camera man who did the
fades and camera shifts on the animation as well as the still shot stuff. He told me
that alot of the cells from those shows hit the trash bin when the studio closed
the doors, and back then they weren't into selling that stuff for money as much as
now.For what its worth… 🙄
October 2, 2005 at 11:15 am #11434AnonymousGuestOoops…forgot to give my artistic style…
Started with influences from pinup artists like bill ward and dan decarlo before I knew
who they were. Then it was jack kirby and john romita sr from marvel, I mixed all that
up with the first guys. Then i discovered super hero robot anime like Yusha Raideen,
and Getta Robo and shojo anime like Candy Candy and that had a big influence on my
art. Add a healthy dose of Mexican Comics like Mil Chistes and dynamic anatomy by
Hogarth and here I am today.I know it sounds like a recipe for Cajun gumbo but this is how I remember it… 😐

Fat Albert is still one of my fondest memories of shows gone by; even the new ones in the early eighties were fun.
I remember Filmation's animated Ghostbusters from 1986 I believe it was, and while it was steeped in the cartoon cliches that Filmation had become known for, it featured much better art than most of its predecessors, and a staggering amount of diversity and creativity omong its character roster. I still recall the elaborately painted interiors of Prime Evil's Hauntquarters as well as the Bonetroller (the macabre pipe organ he used to cause all variety of trouble), and I still to this day am stunned with the sheer amount of detail they crammed into a lot of their static backdrops.
I think Bravestarr was the last series they produced, which arguably had the best art of any of their shows, and also used a good deal of cel-shading as there were frequent interplays between light and shadow.
Oddly enough I remember Uncle Croc's Block…Charles Nelson Reilly and Jonathan Harris, if I recall.

Do you remember the animated Godzilla? It had lyrics but I can't remember them just now. It had a bunch of teenagers and Godzilla's little cousin, Godzookie, who was a cute little dinosaur kind of in the same vein as Yoshi from Nintendo games.
