I’ll have to block the UK from accessing Amaz0ns if the “Online Harms White Paper” policies go through. I suspect a lot of forums and sites will do likewise. The arbitrariness of the EU’s GDPR was bad enough, and I’m not willing to expose myself to additional liabilities. I also don’t want my ability to travel to the UK or EU to be taken away.

    Here’s the article: https://www.cnet.com/news/uk-to-keep-social-networks-in-check-with-internet-safety-regulator/

If you’re in a country that restricts internet traffic or is itself likely to be restricted from access, you can read up on onion routers here: https://www.wired.com/story/the-grand-tor/

You can also build one yourself for less than US$100: https://learn.adafruit.com/onion-pi/overview

I use to wonder why there were novels like Alice in Wonderland.

Yeah, for its time it was a subversive book as a commentary on British society, the aristocracy and the Royals in particular – concealed within a fantasy story. Lewis Carroll (aka Charles Dodgson) had to do it that way, because unlike the USA which has a 1st Amendment, which protects free expression, the UK has nonesuch.

Frank Baum did something similar w/ his OZ stories (Populist allegory), and also C.S. Lewis w/ his Narnia stories (Christian allegory).

At least two of four Classic Chinese novels are full of satires. They came out of similar environment. When you speak up, they might chop off your head. But they become so popular, they inspired countless movies, animes and video games.
