Who knows how or why Marvel wants their main muscular female to be so slim…but I guess its one of those comic things where all females, even the super-strong ones, have to look like models that just so happen to be lifting immense meteors before they smash into the planet!  Even if they have some muscle, its only about fitness level…

Yeah, I remember some years ago in the Comics Buyer's Guide, someone had written complaining about the (lack of) muscle on superheroines, noting especially the differences between Bruce Banner's and Jen Walter's transformations… paraphrasing here: Why is it that Bruce turns into a mass of muscle while Jennifer just goes from "willowy" to "voluptuous"?

BTW: ya might not want to make your "BTW" text too small… it degenerated into a mess of jaggy lines, and I had to read it in the quote for this post to understand what it said.

Well, he did say the name of the show was One Piece… and I gather that it plays on the Fox network's kidvid block "Fox Box" and on Cartoon Network. (I think I have caught a couple of episodes.)

That said… I think I'll pass. As he said, most times anime tries to do a muscular woman, they come up with a character that looks like a man with tits. (Can I use that word? let me check… yes, I can use the word "man".)

Yes, they're ads. I don't know who started this "pop-up" stuff, but there are no pop-ups on this site and no one complained about them.

What ads are you guys seeing??? I see no ads whatsoever, popup, popunder or otherwise, here at the boards, and only the ad at the top (just under the title graphic) on the main Amaz0ns site that seems to alternate between "Misty Anderson" and "Images of Venus". Yeah, I'll concede sometimes those can push that "work-safe" line, but I'm not seeing the overwhelming numbers of salacious porno ads that are plaguing you ("you" meaning everyone who's commented on the ads). Maybe they only show up on Windows?…

I've heard about this phenomenon called "adware" that apparently (if I understand it correctly) opens popups on your screen even when you're not surfing. I wonder if what's happening is that whoever programmed the adware (and therefore must die a slow agonizing death) has somehow tagged "Amaz0ns" to trigger ads to show up whenever the browser visits the site. I can't think of any other reason why some, like Strawberry and Jimmy, are seeing these ads while others like me aren't. (But then, what I know about programming web sites and such could be fit into a thimble and still leave room for your finger…)

UPDATE: Okay, I'm starting to see some text ads below some of the posts, and at the top of the page. Still nothing that should cause any trouble in a workplace or other sensitive area… and I've gotten to where I ignore text ads almost entirely.

I do not doubt anyone's personal assesment or experience, but, for what it is worth — my fantasy heroines are never just generously proportioned towers of well hewn sinew and muscle.  As demonstrated in my stories, my preference (fantasy or otherwise) is for women to have intelligence and personality.

Intelligence and personality do not threaten my fantasies, they fulfill them (along with the muscularity). Like Hunter, I try to imbue my characters with the aforementioned attributes, although I'm probably not as successful at it as he is (I know I'm not as successful as I'd like to be.)

It looks like we are not going to see the big muscled She Hulk for a long time to come.

For some reason Marvel likes the trimmer/slimmer Jen.

Well, it's simple, isn't it? …a majority of comics fans are unwilling to accept (and sometimes can be downright hostile to) depictions of honestly muscular women*. (As is the public at large, as I'm sure we've all experienced to some degree or another, although fans of muscle-women do seem to form a somewhat larger percentage of comics fans than in the overall public.)

I still have this suspicion that Marvel wouldn't be doing a She-Hulk book at all except for persistent requests to do so from an active cadre of SH fans; Marvel probably feels that emphasizing Jen's muscularity "too much" would jeopardize sales on an already-marginal book. An understandable but very regrettable situation.

Makes one wish that Marvel would just release the rights to She-Hulk to the public on a sort of "open-source" style license, so that fans can produce their own art and stories (as Eegore is doing with his "She-Hulk of Earth 2" series without fear of being prosecuted for copyright and trademark infringement.

*I use the term "honestly muscular" as shorthand for "a woman who looks as powerful as she's portrayed to be."

Sorry to go against the current here, but I'm giving a big "thumb up" to the new location.

I'm not seeing any popup ads at all (using Netscape 7.2 on a Mac) so no problem there; and I like that there are now forums here that don't cater exclusively to "growth" topics (like the new Superheroines board under Art). I always felt a little strange (well, at first, anyway) posting here because, aside from Dyna's transformations and Tetsuko's sudden growth (a one-time occurrence), my work doesn't really concentrate specifically on growth.

As for the problem of not being able to surf this site at work because of porno ads… give some serious thought to switching to a browser like Firefox or Netscape that blocks popups.

(Why anyone would still advertise using popups, given the universal hatred for them, puzzles me no end. Myself, I've resolved never to do business with Netflix, Orbitz or the "University of Phoenix" because theirs are the few ads that get through the blockers – meaning that they've seen the popularity of popup blockers and, instead of saying, "Hmm, people really hate this shit; maybe we'd better find a less obnoxious way to market ourselves", they're going "We gotta find a way around these blockers so we can continue to shove our  shit into the faces of these people who don't want it!" Wonderful way of doing business: alienate your potential market with hateful marketing practices.)
